WB 27th April
Memories from childhoods
This week, our learning has been centred around the theme of Memories in Art. The children built on their initial drawings of a childhood memory, developing them into vibrant, detailed pieces. They explored the concepts of foreground, middle ground, and background, and were able to apply these techniques independently with impressive results.
In Science, we continued our topic on light and shadows. The children investigated how shadow length changes depending on the angle and distance of a light source. This proved to be quite a challenging concept, and through discussions about fair testing, the class developed a good understanding of the importance of keeping variables consistent to ensure accurate results.
We have also finished our class text, The Unforgotten Coat. The children have worked incredibly hard to produce their own reconstructed narratives based on the story. They have incorporated a range of grammatical features and descriptive language, while maintaining an engaging, informal tone. Their final pieces have been super to read, leaving me with a big smile on my face, not only at the effort they have put into their work but more importantly just how well the writing is improving together with its exciting content.
In History, we learned more about the Blitz and the impact it had across the UK. The children explored why certain cities and coastal areas were targeted, linking this to Britain’s industrial past, including shipbuilding, coal production, and car manufacturing.
To round off the week, the children enjoyed their swimming session on Friday afternoon. They have been developing their techniques, with a focus on building stamina and confidence in the water.
With the Bank Holiday weekend ahead, I hope you enjoy the extra day - perhaps even some BBQ weather and I look forward to seeing you all back to school on Tuesday 5th May.
