Ancient Egyptians Day January 2025
In our History lessons this term, we have been learning about the Ancient Egyptians. To kickstart this topic, the Lower Juniors children enjoyed Ancient Egyptians Day in January. This included a hands-on workshop in school with an historian from Ufton Court who ran an exciting session full of handling artefacts, role play, observation, asking questions and lots of laughter!
The workshop focused on the Ancient Egyptian beliefs around the afterlife which shaped their treatment of the dead, namely through mummification. Other aspects of the workshop included societal hierarchy, the building and symbolism of the pyramids, as well as exploring everyday objects.
To create a holistic experience, around the workshop the children also participated in Egyptian maths, writing in hieroglyphs and using colour mixing with paints to create a pyramid scene.
The children also got the opportunity to use what they had learnt about mummification when they attempted (I say attempted) to mummify tomatoes - a huge amount of fun!
