Learning and loving on our journey with Jesus

w/c 26th January

English

Our new class book is, 'The Great Fire of London,' by Emma Adams and James Weston Lewis. We wrote warning letters to other Londoners using command sentences so that they could stay safe around fire and avoid any accidents.

History

We have been looking at toys from the past and those that we play with today. We are having great fun seeing what children used to play with but we are also noticing lots of differences between materials that were used, what they looked like, how they were played with and the facet that old toys don't seem to have any sounds or flashing lights!

Maths

This week we started looking at doubles. We learnt that we need to have two of the same number and find the total. We played a fun dice game with a partner, giving ourselves a point every time we rolled a double on the dice. Can you remember doubles for numbers 1-10?

Art

We looked at our maps from week 1 and focused on a particular part. We then used pencils to imprint our chosen map area into some foam. When we were finished we rolled paint across and used our tile to make a print of our map section. We loved this technique!

P.E

In our outdoor P.E lessons, we are looking at attack and defence games. This week we split into two groups to play a game whereby we turned cones different ways up. Not only did we have to concentrate on the task at hand but we also had to look where we were going, change direction, plan a strategy and work as a team.

Indoors we have been looking at body parts in gymnastics and different ways of moving along, across, over and under equipment. We have balanced, side stepped, crawled and rolled whilst thinking carefully about extending our arms and pointing our toes.

Birdwatch

This week we took part in the national birdwatch for the RSBP. In Infants we took shifts in the playground to sit quietly and observe groupings of different birds. We watched as large groups flew overhead but also laughed at some pigeons who started a party in a tree (first there was one, then a friend came and suddenly there were four of them hopping around on the branches!) Can you do your own birdwatch at home and see what your results are?
