BREAKING NEWS! Something crashed in our playground over the weekend so of course we went out to investigate! We found the crash site as well as a yellow egg, some fluff and some footprints leading away. We thought about questions and came up with a wide range such as:
"What happened?"
"Where did it come from?"
"Why is it here?"
"Is it a spaceship?"
"What was inside the egg?"
"Should we touch it?"
We then went inside to write down our questions, focussing carefully on the use of a question mark. We can't wait to find out what has actually happened!
So many questions!
Maths
This week, we moved onto looking at 3D shapes and spoke about the differences we could see from the 2D shapes we looked at last week. We went on a 3D Shape around the classroom and found lots of objects that were shapes we could name. We then explored which 3D shapes were best to build with and which were not depending on their properties.
We looked at patterns today. We headed outside to collect some natural objects and brought them back to make different patterns. We were very good at explaining what we had made. What objects can you find at home to make repeating patterns with?
Consolidation of 2D and 3D shapes
To wrap up our topic of shapes, we created 3D shapes using nets, stacked 3D shapes according to flat faces and played shape bingo to practise reading shape names.
Christmas!
We had a wonderful time decorating our class Christmas tree whilst listening to some festive music (and of course finished off by having a little boogie before the end of the day). One child even commented, "This is my best school day EVER!"
