History
This week we looked at toys from the 1920’s, 1960’s, 1980’s and present day. In groups we moved around the room discussing each toy and writing down our thoughts about whether it was old or new, how we knew what time period it was from, how we thought it worked/was played with, what it was made from, whether it was made by hand or in a factory and how it might be different to our toys today. Some toys are still around, like Nintendos, but the one from the 1980’s looks very different to ours!
Art
We looked at abstract artwork this week and how we could make our maps using shapes and big blocks of colour. We discussed a piece of artwork by Josef Albers (1923) titled, ‘Park,’ looking at the colours he’d used, the meticulous placing of blocks and what we thought each coloured block represented. We also discussed stained glass windows and how they are made using shapes that sit closely together.
We then had a go at making our own abstract map stained glass windows and they look great!
