History
We had a wonderful treat this week…Mrs Scurr’s mummy, Mrs Ilderton, came in to talk to us all about what toys were like in the past. We learnt about newborn babies being given presents like silver spoons and cups which were not very practical! Mrs Ilderton showed us her panda bear toy that is 70 years old and very threadbare. We also learnt that children got oranges in their stockings for Christmas.
After we’d learnt about the toys from Mrs Ilderton’s past, we had a go at making our own peg dolls, singing old songs and playing old style games such as French skipping, normal skipping and hoop and stick.
We had a wonderful time and learnt so much! Thank you for coming in to teach us Mrs Ilderton!

Science
We ventured outside to look for things that are alive, used to be alive or were never alive. It was fun but it also made us think because some things like the shed we first determined had never been alive until we talked about how the wood used to be part of a tree and that was alive at one point. Other items like the bin and the basket ball hoops were easier because we know they are made from materials that do not come from living things. The chickens were the easiest though, they are certainly alive (and very cute!)
Computing
Miss Lilley said our activity this week was a blast from the past because it was very much like a game called, ‘Tetris’. We used our reasoning skills to rotate different shapes before putting our mouse skills to the test to click, hold, drag and drop them into places that would clear a row or column. It was lots of fun but also really made us think.
