Learning and loving on our journey with Jesus

w/c 09.06.25

It’s been a very busy week in Infants 2!

Maths

We played a, ‘Truth or lie?’ game with the clocks. We had to make a time and our partner had to decide if we were telling the truth or telling a lie. Can you try to beat your parents at home?

Baby birds

On Tuesday, some of the Lower Juniors found some stranded baby birds on the school field. It seemed they had crawled away from where they'd fallen (with one sadly not making it) but, after some communication, it turned out that separately three had been rescued to different members of staff. We got the babies back together and Miss Lilley and Mrs Z went out to check that none had been left behind. They managed to find the nest and popped them in there for safety but there were no signs of the parents. After some googling, Miss Lilley thinks they might be baby wrens but it is very hard to tell when they are mostly bald and pink!

After ringing around to some rescue centres at the end of the day, Miss Lilley had no luck and so ended up with three tiny house guests for the evening! She found somebody that was willing to take them on (apparently managing us as a class and three, tiny nestlings is quite hard work) so she had to bring them back to school on Wednesday until she could take them to the lady.

We all had a good look over the two days and marvelled at the wonder of God's creations. How can anything so tiny? In English this week, one of the words we have coincidentally learnt is, 'miniscule,' which we were now able to understand in real life terms.

We also spoke about care for God's creations and how it was important to care for them and try to keep them safe and alive. We then thought back to previous topics in Science where we learnt about what a living organism needs to survive. We remembered that they need food, water and warmth as priorities.

Miss Lilley taught us that giving water to baby birds is dangerous but they get water from the food they eat and showed us the mashed up egg yolk and cat biscuits mixed with sterilised water. We then watched them have a feed which was fascinating. We hope they continue to do well and make it to adulthood so that they can fill the world with their song.

DT

This week, we started making our Ferris wheels! We recalled how they need an axel and discussed how big to make the hole depending on how we'd like the wheel to spin. We then looked at ways to reinforce our paper plates and make them stronger. Some of us used strips of card and some used lolly sticks. We are so excited to get started and can't wait to continue by making the A-frame next week!

English

This week we have started a new book called, ‘Last stop on market street’. We thought about our senses and all the things we experience on a bus ride. We worked together to write these down after we went on a bus ride (an imaginary one around the playground).

R.E

We have been learning about Pentecost. When the disciples received The Holy Spirit it is said that flames appeared above their heads. We made crowns with flames to remember what that symbol represents.

PSHE

In PSHE we thought about the Zones of Regulation and talked about ways we can calm ourselves down. We jotted down our ideas and circled the zones these activities would move us into.
