WB 13th October
English
Our new book is called, 'Dadaji's paintbrush'. It is about a boy who likes to paint with his grandfather. Today, we had 15 minutes to paint anything we liked using alternative tools such as sticks, q-tips and our fingers. We then wrote a caption underneath to tell people about our creations. We are true artists!
On Tuesday we put someone in the hotseat as, ‘The boy,’ to explore how the character might be feeling after the loss of Dadaji. We elaborated on the word, ‘sad,’ to come up with better descriptions of loss.
We also wrote letters to the boy giving him advice on how to cope with the loss of his Dadaji (grandfather) with ways he could start to make himself feel better.
Black History Month
As part of Black History Month we have been listening to songs on our way in each morning that are sung by black artists. Today we had some music by Michael Jackson and some of us just could not resist the urge to start our day with a boogie!
‘Thriller’ wiggles to start the day

History
This week we did a special history lesson on Bessie Coleman as part of our Black History Month celebrations. We learnt about her life and how she fought her way through prejudice and racism to achieve her dreams. She also stood up for black rights and challenged unfair treatment. We wrote down as much as we could remember about her and her busy life.
Bessie Coleman was the first African-American woman and first Native American to hold a pilot license. She is also the earliest known black person to earn an international pilot's license.
Weekly worship
Our hymn this week was about giving thanks for all the beautiful and wonderful things in our world. We are doing so well recently at learning new hymns and we sang this one with passion!
What beautiful and wonderful things can you find each day to thank God for?
‘I mustn’t forget to say a great big thank you...’
