WB 6th October
This week, our main focus in English has been writing a biography of Philippe Petit. The children have worked hard to compile information about his life - from his early childhood to the present day - using research techniques to deepen their knowledge of this famous tightrope walker and his incredible feats. There have been some fascinating facts that we have discovered, and we have all learnt a great deal about Philippe.
In RE, our discussions have focused on God's creation and the beauty of the world He has given us. The children explored how this beauty has sadly been damaged by overuse, and they shared thoughtful ideas on how we can all make positive changes to care for our planet and live more sustainably within it.
In Science, we explored the concept of dissolving. Using sugar in various forms, along with different types of sweets, the children investigated how the temperature of water affects the time taken for granules and colourings to dissolve. It was a hands-on experiment that sparked lots of curiosity and discussion, concluding that hot water dissolves solids faster than cold water.
Our Vikings topic continued with a focus on the sagas of the Greenlanders and Erik the Red. The children compared different versions of the story and considered how perspective can influence how events are told and understood.
In PE, we enjoyed a fantastic lesson outside in the lovely weather. The children took part in a mini tournament, combining their passing and receiving skills in a fun mix of netball and basketball. Teamwork and sportsmanship were on full display!
In Art, we used the interesting collagraphs we created last week - inspired by the work of Teis Albers - to make our prints. The children were delighted with the outcomes and are looking forward to adding line drawings of astronauts, planets and outer space on top next week to complete their pieces.
