Learning and loving on our journey with Jesus

WB 3rd November

UJ3 Weekly Update

As we start a new term, the children have arrived back full of energy and enthusiasm!

English this week has been a sombre experience, as we explored war poetry. We took the time to talk about our own families and it was lovely to hear that some children had started to ask questions within the family about ancestors who might have fought in a war.  We have dedicated ourselves to writing our own reflective poems and the children have truly shown respect for those who gave their lives so that we might live freely. They also had the opportunity to try on a WW1 helmet from The Battle of the Somme (1916) that had been worn by my Grandad.

In Geography, our new topic focuses on the Alps in Europe - exploring the countries they cover and learning about this incredible mountain range.

In RE, we have been discussing injustices in the world and thinking about how we, and others, can help to make positive changes.

Our science topic this half term is all about materials and their properties. This week, the children investigated how hard or soft different materials are by testing them with scratches - a fun, hands-on lesson that everyone enjoyed!

In PE, the children have been putting their netball skills to good use, building on last term’s learning in passing, catching, defending, and attacking. On Fridays, we’ve been swapping the court for the dance floor - not at a disco but learning to move to the rhythm of the samba and tango. Great fun and lots of energy all round!

Finally, many of our wonderful UJ3 pupils have been taking part in a variety of sports this week - some preparing for next week’s Cross Country, while others are eagerly awaiting their turn to compete in the Invictus Games and Athletics.

Well done, UJ3 - what a fantastic start to the term!
