Learning and loving on our journey with Jesus

WB 26th January

Day and night, Tag Rugby, the Great Commission, Queen Elizabeth I and lots more filled our days in Upper Junior 3 this week.

We had great fun exploring day and night by creating a small model of the Earth and using a torch to represent the Sun. The children shone light onto the two hemispheres and observed how light was received depending on the Earth’s tilt and rotation. We then used globes to locate different cities around the world and, once again using our torches as the Sun, decided whether it was day or night in comparison to London.

Tag Rugby was very muddy this week! The speed and skill developing among the children is fantastic to see. There were some great drop kicks, and a real competitive spirit emerged as we headed out onto the field.

In RE, we read about the Great Commission from the Scriptures and discussed its meaning. This led us to think about what advice we would give to someone who had become a follower of Jesus, which the children shared in the form of a letter. Prayer and trust in God were key themes, alongside the importance of spreading the Word of the Lord.

In History, we investigated Queen Elizabeth I and her Royal Progress to Worcester in July 1575. The children used secondary sources to explore what it might have been like to be in Worcester at the time and discovered how the locals prepared for such an important visit - painting their houses, decorating them with flowers and wearing their finest clothes to create a celebratory pageant.

Finally, in English, the children have worked exceedingly hard on a narrative based on The Lost Thing, the book we have been reading. They created their own versions of the story, supported by super mind maps, illustrations and plenty of grammar work. The result is some fantastic narratives that we have really enjoyed reading.

Well done, UJ3 - another great week!
