Learning and loving on our journey with Jesus

WB 22nd September

Week 3 Update: Daring Feats & Scientific Discoveries!

Week 3 has flown by, and what an action-packed week it's been! The children have been fully immersed in their learning, channelling their creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking.

In English, we've taken inspiration from the incredible story of Philippe Petit, the daring street performer who famously walked a tightrope between the Twin Towers in 1974. The children stepped into Philippe’s shoes—quite literally—crafting diary entries from his perspective and even trying out a (safe!) classroom version of the tightrope walk themselves. They also wrote thoughtful letters of advice, weighing up the risks and offering safety tips to Philippe before his historic stunt.

To deepen their understanding, we explored role play, taking on the roles of journalists, police officers, and eyewitnesses. This helped the children gather different viewpoints and prepare for writing interview-style scripts.

In Science, our focus turned to Filtration. The children became young engineers, investigating how to create the most efficient water filters using a mix of materials: sand, glitter, glass beads, lentils, rice, coffee filters, paper towels, and gauze. Through careful planning and hands-on testing, they discovered how the order of layers plays a crucial role in producing the cleanest filtered water—and learned some fascinating science along the way.

This week in RE, we revisited the powerful biblical story of Cain and Abel, focusing on understanding the consequences of right and wrong decisions. The children created detailed storyboards to represent the original scripture, then brought the lesson closer to home by producing a modern-day version of the story—set in a school! This thoughtful activity sparked great discussions about emotions, choices, and forgiveness in everyday life.

A big well done to everyone for their enthusiasm and teamwork this week. Let’s see what exciting challenges Week 4 will bring!
