Learning and loving on our journey with Jesus

WB 19th January

As our third week flies by, I have seen the children working hard across all of their topics and showing fantastic engagement in both sport, reviewing of secondary sources and writing in RE and English.

In PE, we have had great fun practising the drop kick for tag rugby – although some kicks were more akin to those seen on a professional pitch than on our little field! Perhaps we have some future rugby players in our midst.

We continued our work on The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan, creating an advert to persuade anyone who finds a lost thing to take it somewhere specific so that it can be looked after appropriately.

In science this week, our focus has been the Moon: how its phases change and how it orbits the Earth. The children used iPads to research the Moon across all eight planets in our solar system and, in doing so, discovered a great deal more about the world in which we live.

Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn featured in our history lessons this week, as we sought to decide whether Anne played any part in Henry’s absolute power and his becoming Head of the Church of England. As we know, it did not end well for Anne, but the children worked hard to decipher the evidence portrayed in the sources.

We rounded the week off with a visit from Philip Kavvadis, an author of children’s books, who took the children through the journey of his book trilogy and explained how he builds characters and storylines. It was definitely food for thought for their own writing.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
