Learning and loving on our journey with Jesus

WB 13th October

As the term draws to a close, the children remain diligent in their work and have produced some great pieces this week. Of course, one of the highlights was our wonderful Viking trip!

In English, we’ve started a new book, The Promise by Nicola Davies. It tells the story of a young thief who snatches an old lady's bag and is compelled to make a promise - one that marks the beginning of a journey that will change everything forever.

In Maths, Year 5 have been learning about factors and multiples, and they are beginning to realise just how important quick recall of their times tables is. Meanwhile, Year 6 have been focusing on mastering the four operations.

We also brought our science topic to a close with a final experiment on evaporation. The children created a classroom version of a salt flat and placed it on the windowsill - we're now patiently waiting to see how long it takes for the water to evaporate and leave behind crystallised salt.

We have still been enjoying the mild weather for our PE lessons, and it has been wonderful to watch the children’s ball skills developing through a mixture of netball and basketball techniques. After some initial shooting, catching and throwing practice, the children competed in small teams to consolidate their skills. It was great fun, and a lot of energy was used!

Our wider curriculum trip to Ufton Court was a great success! The children had a fabulous day immersed in Viking life. They learned how to protect themselves from raids, defended their leader "The Jarl", and enjoyed rowing the longboat and singing Viking songs before becoming “Raiders” in search of treasure.

There was plenty of fun and laughter in the Viking courtroom, where the children explored Crime and Punishment. They took on roles as criminals, accusers, judges, and jury members - and there were some brilliant actors among them!

It’s been a thoroughly busy and enjoyable week.
