Lent 1
As the second week sped by and the rain poured, we still managed days full of excitement and dedicated learning. This week in English, the children created an explanation text based on How to Look After a Lost Thing, taking inspiration from our current class book. They produced many wonderful texts, sharing ideas about how to care for a lost thing made from metal and living parts, including how to feed and water it and provide a suitable place to sleep.
Christmas has been the focus in the RE lessons, where we studied John’s Prologue (John 1:1–18). We took time to research the meaning of ‘The Word’ and explored how Jesus came to Earth as both God and flesh.
Our Tag Rugby skills are coming along fabulously. In between the raindrops, we managed to get onto the field to practise our throwing and catching skills while running between other players - there was plenty of rolling in the mud too!
Marriage was the topic in History this week as we investigated the marriage requirements of Henry VIII and how many of his wives met their demise. The children are loving the Tudors.
Unfortunately, our science lesson fell on a day when the rain never stopped, but this did not deter us. We went onto the playground to model how the planets orbit in our Solar System. Once back in class, and a little drier, the children carried out research on the planet they had represented. They discovered numerous scientific and fun facts, which they shared with one another. I hope their new knowledge about the Solar System in which they live was fascinating.
Super work this week, Upper Junior 3 - keep it up!
