This week in English, pupils began exploring The First Drawing by Mordicai Gerstein, a captivating story set in the Stone Age that highlights the power of art through its focus on prehistoric cave paintings. 

In Science, pupils learned to identify producers, predators and prey within food chains. Their favourite activity involved taking their learning outdoors, where they acted out different roles in a food chain and experienced first-hand how energy is transferred between living things. 

In Art, pupils carefully selected and applied a range of painting techniques to create textured ‘cave walls’, drawing inspiration from the Stone Age artwork they have been studying. 

This week, we began our celebrations for Black History Month, with this year’s inspiring theme, ‘Honouring Our Communities’. Throughout the month, pupils will have opportunities to learn about, celebrate and reflect upon the achievements, contributions and inspiring stories of Black individuals and communities. 

A highlight of our first week was the Great Big Live Event on Wednesday morning, presented by Dr Krish Kandiah from the Sanctuary Foundation and CBeebies’ Gemma Hunt. Pupils enjoyed hearing about a range of inspirational figures, including celebrated author Malorie Blackman and Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton.
