Science week
Dissection
As part of Science week, a teacher and some students from Newlands came along to teach us about the digestive system. First, we watched in fascination as a fish was dissected! We were enthralled at seeing different parts of its body and even got to see the eyeball lens (a little gruesome for some of us but still so interesting). Next, we learnt about how food travels from your mouth, through your intestines and out at the other end. We mashed banana with, 'saliva,' pushed it through a stocking and then watched as it was squeezed out. We learnt so much and asked so many questions.
Viscosity experiment
We conducted an experiment to test the viscosity of different pancake toppings. If a substance is viscous, it means it does not flow easily. We tested jam, lemon juice, honey and Biscoff spread. We thought about what questions were could ask and came up with:
Which one will reach the bottom the quickest?
Which one will be the slowest?
Will it stay on the spoon?
Will it go slowly?
Can we eat the Biscoff spread?
We had great fun testing each topping, with Miss Lilley timing on the stopwatch to see how long each topping took to reach the bottom of the board. The buzz in the classroom was electric!

Ducklings
We are very lucky that Reception have ducklings again this year. We will go to visit all four of them on Monday (we can't wait) but, whilst they are in the very tiny stage, Miss Lilley popped one little fluffball up to Infants for us to cuddle. It brought us so much joy and we found it very funny when it tried nibbling our jumpers and even the glasses of one child! Our favourite moments though were when it fell asleep on some of us!
MP visit
Josh Reynolds, a local MP for Maidenhead came in to talk to us about his job, what it entails and why he is so passionate about what he does. He shared information about his favourite parts of the job, what he finds difficult and how he is able to help make Maidenhead a better place. We were especially excited about some upcoming projects he shared with us but, ssshhh, we can't say anything about them just yet!
Mother's Day
We thought about our Mummies and everything that makes them special. We are so grateful to have amazing mothers like you and enjoyed celebrating you with a special assembly and morning of activities. We love you very much!
