Learning and loving on our journey with Jesus

w/c 16th March

Ducklings

We had our slot to visit Reception and got to see all four ducklings. They are so cute! We were very quiet and enjoyed watching them waddle around, learning about their different body parts, what they eat, what their names were and what will happen next as they grow.

We got to see the Gus the duckling just before they all leave and he is now HUGE! We looked at his tail feathers coming in, his massive feet and the size of his beak. We cannot believe how quickly ducks grow and had such fun watching Gus waddle around. He even tried eating someone's shoe!

Maths

This week we have been looking at mass and volume. We started the week looking at whether objects were heavier or lighter than others. We were tasked with finding something in the classroom heavier than a tennis ball and lighter than a water bottle.

We then moved onto finding the mass of different objects and measuring this using cubes. We learnt that water bottles are probably not the most sensible classroom object to measure as it had a huge mass of 204 cubes (which took rather a lot of counting!)

We learnt that the scales need to be balanced if the mass of two objects are equal to each other and worked hard to make sure this was precise.

We then moved onto looking at volume. We learnt about the capacity of different pots then popped outside to see just how many cups of water we could fit in each. Can you have a go at home and fill some containers up, looking at full, nearly full, nearly empty and empty?

Eco Garden

We planted some sunflowers as a class. When they are more established we will be planting them in the eco garden in our own class plot. We wonder how tall they'll get?

Geography

We learnt about different types of weather and ways of assessing it. We also recapped how to read a thermometer. In our books, we started a daily weather chart. Thankfully today was beautiful weather so we went outside to decide which symbol to use and to read the thermometer Miss Lilley had placed...it was 21 degrees! We also were able to observe our shadow due to the sunshine so had lots of fun making different shapes, 'eating,' each other's shadows and stepping on the shadow heads of our friends!

R.E

This week we have learnt about forgiveness. We listened to the parable of, 'The Unforgiving Servant,' and thought about the actions of the man. We then worked in pairs where one of us was the servant and one of us was an interviewer. We asked questions like, 'Why did you ask for forgiveness?' 'Why did you not show mercy to the man that owed you money?' and, 'What is it like to be in jail?'

How can you show forgiveness to others?
