Eton College museum trip
We ventured off to Eton College’s natural history museum to learn all about plants in a special workshop just for us. We played a game of rolling a dice and building a plant, adding different parts and labels until we had a winning group shouting, ‘Flower Power!’ We then got to explore as we took part in a scavenger hunt for the things a plant needs to be healthy. Finally, we learnt all about how flowers transfer pollen to other plants by way of insects and wind. We had a lovely time and were so well behaved.
You can visit the museum for free on Sundays. Click the link below to find out more including opening times:
World Book Day
We dressed up as story book characters or specific words and we looked fantastic!
Maths
We are working on bigger numbers to 50! We looked at how to make them using base ten. We thought carefully about how many tens and ones make up each number. Have a hunt for double digit number next time you go for a walk (on front doors, number plates, prices in shops etc) and see if you can say how many tens and ones each number has.
DT
Ahead of making our bookmarks next week, we learnt how to thread a needle and do a running stitch.
Book week
We started the week with a book swap. We chose a new book that looked interesting…we can’t wait to read it!
We took part in a lovely little ladybirds story time and draw along live lesson by author Catherine Jacob and illustrator Lucy Fleming. They talked about their new book, ‘Betsy Buglove and the Lucky Ladybirds,’ which was a great story. We then produced some wonderful artwork as we had a go at drawing Betsy Buglove, guided by Lucy’s instructions.
We got comfy with blankets, slippers and cuddly toys as we curled up and enjoyed some quiet reading.
Year 6 and Year 4 came to read with us and we had a lovely time together
Geography
We had fun looking through an atlas to find Europe, then the UK and, finally, the four countries that make it up. We were able to find England, Scotland, Northern Island and Wales.
We also popped outside with a map of the playground to search for signs of seasonal change. We saw signs of Spring everywhere! The weather is getting warmer and plants are beginning to grow.
