Learning and loving on our journey with Jesus

w/c 23rd February

A very busy first week back!

English

Our new book is, ‘Iggy Peck, architect’.

Whilst the Year 1’s ventured to the library, the Year 2’s discovered the world of architecture. We designed our very own structures using straws and masking tape.

We looked carefully at different adjectives and sorted them into groups. Year 1’s built towers to match words such as, ‘Colourful,’ or, ‘Tall,’ whilst Year 2’s had a go at putting adjectives into sentences.

Library trip

Year 1 children headed off along the road to the library. We enjoyed listening to the story of, ‘The Gruffalo,’ before having an explore of the book shelves. We were so excited to find copies of one of our recent class books, ‘The Great Fire of London!’ Some of us were able to check out some books to borrow (they are due back on the 17th March). Make sure you visit the library again soon to borrow some more books!

Maths

We looked at counting in 10s and worked with numbers to 50. We played a game in groups to see who would be the first to fill their ten frames to 50. Each time we rolled the dice we subitised the number and added counters to the frames until they were complete. It also helped us to practice our bonds to 10.

After working on numbers to 50 by counting in tens, we moved onto making two-digit numbers up to 99 with tens and ones. We worked in partners to choose a number on the 100 square and making it with base ten manipulatives.

Science

This term, we are learning about plants. We went outside to draw all the different plants we could find. We then wrote about the plants we found and what a plant needs to grow and survive.

DT

This term we will be learning about stitches and sewing our own bookmarks. Today, we learnt about different fabrics, how they are made and what they are used for. Some fabric is made from weaving threads together so we had a go at weaving ourselves, moving thread in and out of the frame.

P.E

We had so much fun learning to dribble a ball. After a bit of practice, many of us were able to dribble and run in a straight line. After we’d learnt this skill, we challenged ourselves to dribble the ball in and out of cones.

Signs of Spring

Back in the autumn term we planted bulbs that parents very kindly donated. We were overjoyed to see that our bulbs have grown and begun to flower! Thank you again to all those parents that brought in plant pots, soil and bulbs.

Braywick Active 60 sports trip

We had a wonderful, and very active, afternoon at Braywick Leisure Centre. We broke into teams and played a large number of games and sporting activities such as volleyball, archery, football, using balance bikes and dodgeball.
