We have all settled into Reception really well. We have been exploring different resources and have begun learning new phonemes (sounds) in Phonics. This week we have learnt the sounds s, a, t and p and have practised writing them during our handwriting lessons. In R.E. we learnt about the story of creation and in the creative area, we painted the world. 

In drawing club, we read the story 'Where the Wild Things are'. On Monday, we drew Max. On Tuesday we drew the Wild Things den. On Wednesday, Max's boat had gone missing, so we had to draw another mode of transport for him to travel on – the ideas we came up with were hot air balloons, submarines, other people picking him up in a boat, paths and bridges. The children have been using special ‘codes’ in making their pictures do different things. We sequenced the story of 'Where the Wild Things are' during our choosing time.

In the creative area, we also made ourselves into the main character of the story by decorating a template of Max with our faces stuck on. We also made our own crowns so we could be King/Queen of the Wild Things.

In Science, we learnt about the changes that have come in Autumn and what things we could see. In Music, we learnt how to make music using our bodies.

In Maths, we have been learning how to subitise - subitising is being able to visually see a number of objects instantly without needing to count them out one at a time. On the Maths table, we did activities to practise number recognition, shapes, counting objects and creating towers by counting.

In PE, we learnt different ways to use equipment safely and to take turns with each other.
