WB 23rd March
As we come to the end of Spring Term 2… what a week it has been!
This has been a jam-packed term, right through to the very last days.
We have enjoyed lots of extra-curricular activities this week, including den making, eco gardening, cress planting, and preparing our raised beds for future planting. All of this took place alongside full days of lessons - what a fantastic effort from everyone!
The children have worked incredibly hard on their final piece of writing this term: a formal persuasive letter to a recipient of their choice, encouraging them to reflect on and possibly change some of their decisions. Many wrote to Mrs Akehurst about topics such as uniform and reading, while others chose to write to Sir Keir Starmer, Josh Reynolds (our local MP), and even football managers. Great writing, UJ3 - you should all be very proud of yourselves.
In RE, we reflected on the term of Lent and the Stations of the Cross. Some of the children thoughtfully acted out Stations 11 and 13, and we all created our own Lenten crosses to carry with us on this journey.
Science was energetic this week as we tested our heart rates against increasing levels of exercise. The results clearly showed that, in most cases, higher levels of activity lead to an increased heart rate.
In Geography, we completed our topic on deserts by comparing our local area with the Mojave Desert. We discovered - perhaps unsurprisingly - that the Mojave Desert is much warmer than Maidenhead!
In D&T, we finalised our truss bridges. Some were strong enough to hold several books, while others unfortunately collapsed under the weight. We then explored how design improvements - such as stronger joints, better tape, or additional spaghetti strands - could make them more stable. There were some truly amazing designs!
All that remains to say is: have a very happy Easter and enjoy the holidays.
