Upper Junior 3
Week 2 – Book Week
The children have engaged in lots of book activities this week and, over the last month, have enjoyed a variety of author visits to inspire their own writing.
We have continued our investigation into the workings of our body and this week looked at the circulatory system and how the double circulation system moves around our bodies. Having discussed how our heart keeps us alive and how blood travels through arteries and veins, we walked through a diagram on the playground of our body, chanting the journey of the blood.
Lent is still our focus in RE, and we have discussed how we can give alms to those more vulnerable than ourselves and how we might choose to give other gifts at this time of year - perhaps donating clothes and praying for others.
PE has been another physical one, jumping up and down to HIIT sessions, raising our heart rates while answering questions on nutrition.
In Geography we concentrated on the Mojave Desert in America and researched both human and physical geography facts about the area, developing our knowledge of hot deserts.
The Wolf from The Three Little Pigs has been our focus this week in English. We plotted a long timeline looking at the story from the perspective of the pigs, then retraced our thoughts and looked at the story from the perspective of the wolf. There were many interesting thoughts and ideas. We ended our lessons with a posthumous letter from the wolf giving his side of the story.
Lots of fun and superb costumes were on display this Thursday as we celebrated World Book Day. Please look for the book token in the bottom of children’s bags so that they can be exchanged for a book in local shops. It was wonderful to see the children’s imagination and their choice of word as a descriptor.
We start next week with a trip to a local secondary school for some Harry Potter–style experiments - lots of fizzing and banging perhaps. Then we return to complete our Spring assessments.
Enjoy the weekend 🙂
